because of our selfishness and greed. we never feel any contentment of what we have. we always strive for something far from our reach. we are very materialistic.

happiness cannot be found outside but inside our hearts, and inorder for us to be happy we have to be spiritually and emotionally healthy because even if you have all the wealth in the world we still cannot tell that someone is happy if he doesnt feel the contentment in his heart

We can, read on. . . . . . . .

There was a story about a man who every day his friend would ask him how he was and he would always say that if he were any better, he would have to be twins, because one person couldn’t be better! When asked how he can always have such a positive attitude, he said that every day he wakes up and he said that he has two choices....he can chose to be in a good mood or he can choose to be in a bad mood....he chooses the good mood. He said that every situation is like that and that his attitude effects everything that he chooses and that everything is choice!

One day he was robbed at gunpoint and shot. Soon he was discovered and he was rushed to the hospital and on his way there the paramedics were telling him that he was going to be ok, but when he got to the hospital, the looks on the doctors and nurses had a different story....their faces said that he was going to die. Well, he knew that he had to do something. There was a big fat nurse shouting questions at him for her records, and when she asked him if he was allergic to anything, he said, "yes!" At which point the doctors and nurses all stopped working on him and waited to hear about his allergy. He said, “BULLETS! I am allergic to bullets! Operate on me as if I am alive, not like I am dead!!!" After 18 hours of surgery, he made it.

Later when his friend saw him he asked him what was running through his mind during the robbery. He said that the first thing he thought of was that he should have locked the back door, but as he lay there bleeding he said two choices came to his mind one was to live and the other was to die. He chose to live!!!!

Choice and attitude are everything!! So in answer to your question, WE CAN BE HAPPY if we make the right choices in our lives.

Happiness and joy are different. Even criminals condemned to die in the morning can laugh at jokes and keep their mind occupied with reading a book. Happiness is busyness and focusing on small good feelings.

Joy is knowing that it all comes out good at the end. That all the big important things are taken care of. Then we can laugh at the jokes and read the books without the background of impending despair.

I can't be happy because I'm a reasonably intelligent person. As such, I realise the world is full of ignorant morons who screw things up. Ignorance really is bliss. Dumb people aren't nearly as bitter, cynical and jaded as intellectuals.

With that said, 99.9% of people who frequent this site should be as happy as pigs in mud.

we can have happiness but we can't have eternal happiness. It must have an opposite an equal equivalent.

Decision lies within ourself, and ourself only. If you decide to be happy, then you will be. If you decide otherwise, it'll be so. Different people have different levels of expectations for 'happiness', no one is the same. I'm happy all the time :-)

it's not that we CAN't be happy. it's just that we DON't seem to be happy. happy for the things we have, we don't have and for the things we want but we don't need. sometimes we have this idealistic notion of happiness, but we have to remember that happiness comes and goes for those who take it for granted, for those who don't earn it and for those who let it pass him/her by. . . we can be happy, only if we know how to be. =)

Because we are never truly grateful for what we have at the moment. If one would only say thanks for the good that is in their life, no matter how little. Gratitude helps us be accepting, and once we accept our lot in life "at the moment", happiness grows, and we will be blessed with more.

We can't be happy because we can't forget ourselves on any sustainable basis. For whatever short moments or periods we can do that, we do experience sublime happiness.

because you are only focusing on the sad things, just look on the brighter side and i bwelieve that someone has to sacrifice and get hurt for another one to be happy.
