The media flashed lot of controversial news about the background of the lady chosen for the post by the ruling group at centre? The principal opposition the BJP also severly criticised the choice. but the Congress and its allies ignored the news flashes and blamed the opposition of mud slinging on its candidate..!

A first woman Prez is a happy thing ok; but the question is the choice of the first lady.. Some of you have said that it was not on gender basis the choice was actually made... quite right - may be for her "education and character" as some one says, or for her "loyalty" to the party president in power as the Opposition would say, or whatever.. The point is there were some controversial news and the choosers did not care to give a convincing clarification - including the PM who chose to give a generic reply..

OK. A friend cautions that the Prez is a respectable post. Indeed so and hence all the discussion to maintain its esteem. A prez is not above criticism, even Dr Kalam was criticised for signing the dismissal of a State Govt.. One can even criticise a judgement but not attribute motive.. we will not do it..

So share your considered views on the way a choice was made by the UPA in the instant case..

This time it is a Political appointment as agreed by the ruling combine with the blessings of Left. The selection was done on the basis of so many other considerations, not on efficiency alone. Please be honest. How many of us have heard the name of this President before she was brought to the elections as a candidate. How ever we have a Lady President for the first time in our Country. We should feel happy about the same.

I'm quite happy bot it..
till now even USA never had a lady president & we, India - a developing economy has dared to that !

infact at some points it is not bot bein man or a woman but a clean, well charactered person shud sit on the most prestigious post of a country..

I think pratibha patil is a very clean, well educated(by thoughts as well) lady as compared to the compititors she had.

& mind u .. politician + clean character is the rarest combination today ;)

cheers !!!

Its not man or a woman , The President has national powers which are not objected due to gender issues , he/she just hv to implement them tidily and alertly .
Acc to me The Presd. should have certain good qualifications and should have clear implications of the responsibility of the whole nation.
I even dont think that our new President Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil was selected on gender basis but might hv been

Personally I am very happy that a Lady has become our First Lady.
Frankly as a citizen I do not give a damn about the political parties or the media who have their own agenda and ideas and I really feel sorry for her as she did not deserve this kind of treatment at all .

The presidium who selected the lady president consists of intelligent and experienced members and we are too small to fit into their shoes. We must trust that they must have gone through all pros and cons before arriving at the name. I do not see anything wrong in their choice.
