No, because the administration has coined them "unlawful combatants" rather than "prisoners of war" thereby skirting the Geneva Conventions.
Human Rights Watch disagrees. See here:

...for a somewhat dated (but still relevant) article on the subject.
Hope this helps!

Almost everyone except the White House lawyers agrees that the United States is violating the Geneva Conventions (among others) by operating the Guantanamo Bay detention center. You can give me a thumbs down if you like, but it doesn't make me wrong.

LOL.... Do POW's get lawyers. Let me think. When in the world history do you think we ever gave POW's lawyers? The Geneva Conventions do not call for us to give POW's lawyers.
You can easily do a search on Geneva Conventions and get the entire set of Conventions on line. They are interesting, but they do not refer to giving lawyers to anyone.
I can just see every POW in WWII asking for a lawyer. I personally do not think there are that many lawyers available to handle the load.
The prisoners want to be called 'criminals', not POW's so that they can avail themselves of the U S Constitution. The Constitution (basically) is where you get the right to a lawyer.

Bush's War on Terror should, by right, give the prisoners prisoner of war status.
But by some magic trick they are not classed as prisoners of war ?
So the Geneva Convention does not apply.
Go figure ...

As POWs, no. Do Muslim extremists supply lawyers for their prisoners? NO. They torture them with power drills and be-head them. We don't kill them and display the mutilated bodies with booby traps hoping to kill more either.Until this changes I don't give a DAMN about the prisoners rights in Cuba. Do I support this war? HELL NO, never did. So don't paint me as some rt. wing wacko Christian extremist either. I consider them the Western(Christian) version of the Taliban. Both have visions of world wide control or if not that world wide destruction for the glory of God/Allah. Both DISGUST me.
