without honesty what is the relationship based upon? If either person is lying to the other than things are fair on both parties and it can't work cause sooner or later people do get caught out.
Honesty and trust is the basis of any relationship or friendship.

umm, duh...When those people that don't tell each other find out the other's problems they wont be very happy and the relationship is a reck. At least if the people are honest with each other then things can be done to fix the problems, when no one is saying what they are really feeling then the problems just get worse and then erupts.

Yes, of course honesty does.
I have been with my loving girlfriend for 5 years and we have had our share of mistakes. Some small and others very large.
Because of all the open communication we are still together and having nothing to hide in the future.
If something did happen to come up later, that would only hurt the relationship more.
Don't hide lies and bad habits from your partner!

respect is earned, it is the bedrock of any worthwhile relationship. it's what love thrives on. Being disrespectful (lying, infidelity, abuse, addiction, etc) to your yourself and/or your partner eats away at a relationship.
Sometimes, it is respect that keeps you honest, faithful, compassionate, patient, etc when you are tempted to do/ be otherwise.
