Since a year i get a bad (fishy) smell a few days after period. Its pretty bad... But it goes away within 2 days or so , and then its back to normal. I wonder what it is.... Because it goes away by it self I dont think I should worry but I am sure I didnt have it before. Now every tim after period (not during) I smell bad for a few days. So bad for sex!!! Maybe its because we have sex during period? Or.... because of using tampons? But I always use tampons. Please react if you can relate. Thanks so much

Likely this is bacterial vaginosis - and can be easily treated by your doctor with flagyl.

These are bacteria which were already in your vagina - but your period causes a shift in pH which makes this get worse.

See your doc - this will be gone after a week - 10 days of meds.

One thing that always helped me for the pain was to get some aleve, midol or tylenol take it like 10 minutes before i get in the shower and let the HOT water just run on me to get my blood pumping and the pills working and then just relaxing. Now we all know this not possible being a teen and having school and friends to hang out with but make a little time to do this in the morning and at night and even a hot water bottle on your belly would be good. The discharge though unwanted is normal too.. Another thing you can try is the birth control pill for the cramps and irregularity. Hope it gets better.

visit your gyno to check for a yeast infection or stds.

Bacterial Vaginosis could be the culprit. It causes a "fishy" odor which is usually worse after sex.

It usually goes away on its own but if you're sick and tired of waiting, you can visit the doc and they can give you meds for it. A 7-day course of antibiotic medication treatment is recommended to maximize the chances of treatment success.

I have never had the smell occur after my period but I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation of the situation because this could be symptom of an infection.

I agree with the previous poster. You need to see the doctor because this isn't normal.

Are you changing your tampons often?
