This is a hard question to answer. In every year of the war (except maybe 1945.) German army had something that could be referred as it's peak.In 1941. German army was at it's peak in terms of logistics, supplies, manpower, morale and many other aspects,so it can be said they were at peak. Not to mention that by that time they managed to fight the war outside their homeland. On the other hand, while German military capabilities were decreasing,it seems their military technology was advancing. So they invented panthers and tigers first, which could be something like peak of their panzer capabilities.Second in terms of infantry weapons, they started to produce gewehr 43,panzershreck and mp 44 in 1943/44 so it could be like a peak of infantry weaponry...Although their infantry equipment had dramatically decreased during 1944.They also started to manufacture large numbers of camo uniforms and large numbers of camouflage tactics,so it could be reffered as camouflage peak.During 1944. Germans started to use rocket weapons, not only V1 and V2 but also some AA rockets, like rheintochter. They also started to develop infra red sights for panthers and even for MP44.

CONCLUSION:I would say that 1941. could be the peak of German army in terms of their invincibility and organization but if they waited until 1943. (when they had Tiger,Panther,Panzer IV ausf. H,etc.) it could have resulted in a different end of war.The Germans of 1943. were also very powerful fighting force but devastated by lack of supplies and incriesing shortage of man power.I personally think that Germany was the best fighting force in Europe even as late as 1944. (right before Ardennes offensive),of course after the USSR (but only because USSR had endless resources).

No. I would say that anywhere before 1941 would be the peak of the German Army. If you're talking WW2, then specifically after the Third Reich defeated France and Britain was barely holding Germany off around 1939,1940, and 1941. But as soon as the Hitler regime declared war against America it was doomed. Not because we were so cocky and better than everyone else. But because Hitler had too many troops in Russia, another place he was trying to take over.

If Hitler would have stayed friends with Stalin then we might be living in Hitlerville right now. Yes, the German army was good. The German Navy was good. The freakin German airforce was good. But Hitler was a retard. Everything was spread too thin. 1939 - early 1941 was the best time for the German army. All of 1941 cannot be counted since Hitler made so many stupid mistakes (on top of being born).

No, winter 42 after the fall of france and the conquest of the balkins, was in my opinion the hieght. you could even argue that the high water mark could have been the battle of stalingrad before the envelopment. How much fight do you think the russians would have had after it fell.

Others would argue 43 and into 44 would have been the peak at least tech wise with the advent ot the v2, panther, aR 234, me 262 and the wide spread mobilization of SS panzer Units.

You could even argue that the second they invaded poland there fate was sealed so in that case

The Height of the German Army was August 30 1939, when they had all the potential in the world

Not really. Their equipment, especially their tanks, improved during the latter course of the war - especially with the addition of Mark V Panthers and Mark VI Tiger tanks. I would consider 1943 before the battle of Kursk to be the peak. Unfortunately for the Germans, the Russian army was also both increasing and improving greatly compared to 1941. Opinions will vary on this one. Good question.

No, I would say 1942 before El Alamein. That was the start of the retreat for the Germany army followed by Stalingrad in early 43

No, I would say 1942. The army was still expanding up to that point, and getting better equipment. In spite of the better equipment that came after that point, the wehrmacht never really recovered from the loss of Paulus' 6th army at Stalingrad.

Yes it was. That was until the first time a blitzkreig failed. They got turned back at the siege of Moscow from Oct 41-Apr 42. That's when the war turned around and they had to be on the defensive for the first time. To add onto that, that's when the US officially got into it.
