Your victim is at home watching television alone. You carry out you crime and drop one of his tissues / cigarettes / pens etc
at the crime scene. The police are busy. The evidense is conclusive. The fact that the peson has no previous criminal history is not relevant. We are all on the data base and the latest crime is DNA planting. The criminal goes free. What do you think?

With this, you illustrate perfectly why there cannot be a return of the death penalty in the UK. This excellent Q shows that there is STILL no completely foolproof means of determining guilt in a crime that some here would wish to see capital punishment deal with.

Good spot and one of the many reasons why DNA is not a panacea to crime. In general, the vast majority of crimes do not leave DNA traces at all. This is true of rape, shooting, stabbing etc. So why then do the government want your DNA?

I think you might be watching too many Forensic Files shows! Seriously, I hope they would get to the bottom of it. Ever hear of the Innocence Project? Wrongly accused people were sent to prison and then released after the now available DNA tests cleared them. It's scary!
