It depends on the subject matter. There are some areas in which Vanderbilt is considered better, others for which Harvard is better.

Vanderbilt is a tier 1 school. Certain people in certain circles may only accept Ivy League credentials, but Vanderbilt is generally held in the same regard as Stanford, Chicago, or Duke. It's consistently held up by US News and World Report as one of the top schools, one of the top 3 in the Southeast. The law school is in the top 20. It's medical school is the best in the southeast. MBA's from the Owens School of Business average $100,000 in their 1st year. Truthfully, no employer would see Vanderbilt as a step down. I have had 3 friends go to Harvard and then come to Vanderbilt. There may be specific schools where Vanderbilt is separated from Harvard, but I am hard pressed to know what it would be.

Vanderbilt is an excellent school! What sort of snobs do you think you might be working for in the future?
