My partner and I had decided that we want to put a stop to have any more children, no matter what happens. I think to be responsible people, the best thing to do is to have a tubal ligation. However, I had read about side effects like heavy bleeding, prolonged menstrual cycle, pelvic pains, putting on weight etc please share..........

No No I don't beleive that stuff!! I had it done yrs ago and I was always skinny even after my kids and i only gained weight when i got older and plus i got thyroid problem which can cause weight gain!! Also, my periods have never ever been heavy !! and it doesn't last very long 3 to 5 days and it did not chage from having the tubal!! It stayed the same!! And no pain from it either!! So i don't know were you heard all this , i never heard of it before? It doesn't change you as i know of, it didn't me!! The only problem I had with it is this----- You never know what the future has in store for you, So you have to think about and ask yourself these questions even if you think right now it will not happen You must ask them to yourself!!! What if in the future you get Divorced? It can happen no matter what! Would I want another child later on if i remarried? people DO re marry and they do want Children together, even if they have other children with someone else!! It happens!! Would it be fair if he divorced you and you can not have any more kids and He went on to Have more Kids with another woman? It can Happen!! And what if you want one and couldn't but he can?!! And he will !!! And the next questuion is really really Inportant!!! What if you Lose a child??? ANd want another child?? and can't have one? It can happen and it does!!! Because when you lose a child you miss them so much and sometimes having another later on helps you through it all, it gives you soemthing to look forward to after such a terrible loss!!! It does not replace a child you loss but it helps Fill the Space !!! because there is always an Empty Space after you lose a child !!! And its important to have soemthing inlife to look forward too and nothing can replace that child but having another can make your life reacher and more happeir!! I know I've been there!! I have always told people that ask me , how i feel about it and most of the time they decide Not to have a Tubal!! And don't let a spouse push you into it!! Its not really effecting them in the long run like it will you !!! trust me!! also, it is hard to reverse a tubal and cost alot of money, so if your rich it can be reversed!! And most of the time a reversed tubal doesn't work !!! If you have them cut and tied it is even harder to reverse!! My neice was going to have one when she was younger, she swore she wanted nomore kids, and after talking to me she waited and decided not to, and years later she had another baby !!!! And said she was so glad she took my advice back then and didn't do it!!! She knew too how bad I wanted another baby after i lost my daughter!! And yes i had other kids but that didn't matter!!! Its the longing a mother has!!! I had 3 girls and still wanted 3 kids when i lost one!!! To this day i never could have anymore, but God has blessed me with 3 grandaughters and 3 grandsons!!!! Thank God!! But maybe someone else can learn from my experience and at least really think about it more before doing such a serious thing to their life !!!

Hi there...
How about asking about the Essure procedure? It's less invasive than a tubal ligation. With tubal ligations, incisions are made. They're small, but nonetheless, cutting is required. With Essure, everything is done via hysteroscopically, through the cervix. The recovery time is shorter, quicker, less painful. :)

I had Essure done back in 12/04. It involves placing small coils into the fallopian tubes, which causes scar tissue to build up, therefore blocking the tubes to prevent pregnancy. For the first three months a back up form of birth control is used (my husband and I used condoms) and then an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) is done to make sure that the tubes are indeed blocked.

I had this done at the same time as an endometrial ablation, so I spotted/bled a bit moreso than one who just had Essure done, and the cramping was a bit more intense. Otherwise, it wasn't all that bad.

Good luck to you.
