On a personal level, and being American, I'd have to agree with the couple who said we'd pay yall to keep him. I'd go so far as to say take him on a surfin trip of no return...
On a wider level, its about politics and good faith. I assume that any country hosting the leader of another country pays the costs of that visit. As long as its to do with business and not of a personal nature. It would be like inviting a friend to come visit you. You'd give them food, room and board and see to their safety while they were visiting. The citizens as a whole may not like him, hell I'm sure most Americans would agree with that view, but he is at present the President of a rather large country and its in good faith that the two countries keep a peace between them. I dont think one can think in terms of liking or disliking, when said person is already in that leadership position. Thats politics for you.
It's the respect of the office he holds more than respect for the man himself. If we as Americans dont respect the office of the President, what good is it? Same with Australia, I'm sure some dont like your Prime Minister, lack respect for him, that may be but you should at least have a degree of respect for the office seat. I dont think any one country could survive on its own completely. I dont care how "powerful" the country thinks it is. It's like a person living a life without friends/peoples support. Everyone needs backing at some point or another...a show of good faith.

Ironical isnt it that we have to protect him but nobody wants to harm the Chinese or Russian presidents or any of the other 20 leaders that should tell us something.
