I'm 20 years old and turning 21 this week. Well, i have a couple of good friends that are pretty close to me that we go to the same college. I really dont have that many friends that i hang out with besides them but i have a lot of acquaintances but don't really talk to them. Anyways, this weekend i want to go to the casino and play some poker.

I asked my 2 buddies to go and right now we are seniors/5th year seniors in college. My buddy and I both have 2.8-2.9 GPA's so we are not doing that good. My buddy sort of agreed with me and said sure we can go this weekend since its your birthday. But today i talked to him and he said no. He told me to stop thinking about that and focus on school. I told him dude its just one day.

He say he will go but in December after the semester is over. Basically celebrating my 21st bday 3.5 months later if you will.
So should i get mad at my friend for this? I mean we dont have any exams or big assignments due since we just started semester.

Your friend has enough wisdom to not want to fall behind early in the semester. If he doesn't want to go out, then just celebrate by yourself. If you are angry, then ppl telling you not to be angry isn't going to help.. 10 years from now, you will look back and see how silly the whole situation is. If your biggest problem is that a friend doesn't want to go to a casino with you, then that isn't too bad. Wait till you hit 30, 40 or 50 and then you will see what real trouble is. Anyway, happy birthday. The casino sounds like a lot of fun. Not to mention the buffet in many of the casinos.

School is important. But since the semester just started*-and it is your birthday, of course I'd get mad. He already said he would go. You should try to make more friends, what happens if things between you guys change and for the worse?...I have close friends and acquaintances, but I try to have an over all load of circle of friends I can trust, even if they are not within the same group aka school; co-workers ; hometown friends etc, because when one turns on me, others are there*, but I hope that doesn't happen to either of us.

Well.. I think you have a reason to be upset.. but maybe not mad for a couple of days at them (( I don't think you are though.. ))

I would be kind of upset and disappointed, since.. if he told me that he would come for my birthday, then all of a sudden postpone on it and say no.. and tell me to focus on school more. F*ck yeah would I feel upset. But that's a part of Life. You forgive and forget. I think he should go though.. and not tell you to focus on school. Because it's your Life and how you wanna live it. You don't need anyones help and you certainly do not need an advisor.

But yeah.. It's alright.
And Happy early Birthday. Hope you have a good one =)

Don't get mad at your friend. He wants to focus on school right now and he probably wants to try to fix his GPA right now. don't get mad at him for wanting to fix his grades. It's just one day but what happens if one of your teachers decide to spring a pop quiz on the class and you haven't been reading the material. So going to the casino to play poker after the semester is over is not a bad idea. besides, you have a whole lot of life ahead of you and you don't need to do it right now.

No. You shouldn't get mad at your friend. Sorry for the brutal honesty here, but you should grow up. You are a senior in college! It's time to start taking life seriously and be responsible for your actions. Maybe your friend has other worries (financial, health, educational) that you're not aware of. It is your birthday, and it is understandable that you would want to celebrate, but getting mad at him because he doesn't want to gamble is pretty selfish - don't you think?

Nah - Don't make a big issue of it. It sounds like he might've been taking some "flack" from "behind the scenes" (his Parents- maybe) about going out this weekend, so he decided to beg off & not go. Don't take it personally. Life is too short, & GOOD friends are hard to come by.

Sounds like he's pretty boring if he doesn't even want to go have fun for a day. Find some fun people and enjoy your birthday with them. What else can you do? And there's no point in being mad. Sure it was kindof lame for him to back out, but people are people.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Perhaps he just has to focus. Sometimes you have to keep your nose to the grindstone. It is probably not against you, simply for his best interest at the time. Don't be upset over it, in the overall picture of things it is small. Some times the wait is worth it. Happy Birthday.......wishing you well in all!

i know that u turn 21 once but maybe you should think if he has any problems or anything else. don't get mad u can celebrate it with him on one of the days just with him and then if he can't come for the bigger party u won't feel that sad or angry because u have celebrated with him already.
