Devise a test that proves or denies the hypothesis
Conduct the test with acontrol
Revise and redo (lather, rinse, repeat)

The scientific method is the systematic approach to gathering information.
State the problem
Research and Data Collection
Interpretation
Hypothesis
Experiment and Observation
Conclusion ( If the hypothesis is confirmed or not confirmed )
-If confirmed then communication and further testing is required to then lead you to a theory.
-If not confirmed then formulate a new hypothesis and adjust your experiment to lead to a confirmed conclusion.

Your question is too general. What methods to a particular subject are you asking about? Subject, discovery, investigation and conclusion would be my initial answer.
