what is the easiest way to spread compost on a lawn?

I'm wanting to reseed my lawn and put compost down first. It's only about 1/4 of an acre. Thanks!

Easiest? Hire a kid.

Just shoveling it out, or even just pouring the bags out, and then raking is not so hard. Use a wide straight rake and put a little weight on it. All you need to do is just walk around and it will be evenly leveled in a short time.

Having a drum roller with mesh skin works well too. Pour the compost in the drum and roll it round.
