The New Kingdom begins with the 18th Dynasty and the expulsion of the Hyksos. During the New Kingdom (1570-1070 B.C.) Egypt becomes a great military power. It expands its borders and influence in the south to Nubia and to the north to Syria. The Egyptians learned new innovations in warfare from the Hyksos. For the first time the Egyptians are able to use the horse and chariot in warfare. Most of the famous pharoahs we know are from the New Kingdom: Amenhotep I, Tuthmoses III (the Napoleon of Egypt), Hatshepsut (female Pharoah), Akhenaten (cult of Aten), Tutankhamun (famous boy Pharoah), Ramesses II (Pharoah of the Exodus), etc. Egypt under the New Kingdom
faces outward while under the Old and Middle Kingdoms Egypt faced inward. Now Egypt had to deal with the Hittites, who they had treaties and wars with. Then later with the Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans.
