It guarantees your rights as an individual. Only a fool would give that up.

No, the Constitution is not irrelevant. The Constitution delineates the truth about freedom, and truth is timeless.
The best and brightest scholars have declared the Constitution to be the single most important document in history. People have been struggling to become American citizens and enjoy the freedoms the Constitution promises.
People's values may change, but the truth never does. For those who don't want follow the truth, the Constitution is a great inconvenience; it blocks them from doing what they want. Those people would call the Constituion irrelevant.
The debate continues, fiercely, every day. Some laws and "right and wrong" things are quite evident. But there are philosophical considerations, such as:
Does human life begin at conception or birth?
When is it reasonable to conduct warrantless wiretaps?
A consensus by the people must be reached and enacted into law, according to the standards of the Constitution.
We obey the constitution because it is the right thing to do. If we discover that a mistake has been made we can, after careful consideration, make changes. The Founding Fathers added the rights of the individuals against the government in the Bill of Rights, which are the first ten "amendments" of the constituion. They decided those rights needed to be spelled out in no uncertain terms. The Constitution has been amended 17 more times since then.

The Constitution is the law of the land. The ten Commandments are thousands of years old. They are still relevant. The Constitution was written over two hundred years ago. It can be amended and has several times. But the Constitution is still basically the same as it ever was and still is the model for other countries.

That is the most important paper you will ever read in your life or not read and still have protection from it. Our current leaders would never be able to write or even come up with the concept to write the laws of our nation that actually protects EVERYONE. The fact that you have freedom of speech allows you to be able to even ask this question. The freedom to practice a religion of your choice instead of a state-sponsored religion. The right to have a gun for protection against your government or militias. Due process. The right to vote.
The Constitution is pure brilliance. Other countries are envious of constitution and what it has allowed our country to become. Savior it and appreciate it.

The Constitution gives you a mechanism to amend the Constitution.
If the Constitution really needs to be changed it can be amended using the proper procedures.
Just because something is over 200 years old does not necessarily mean that you throw it out.
What you replace it with in most cases will be vastly inferior to what we have now.

The constitution isn't something that we have to obey. It limits the power of government, not individuals.
Since when is old not as good? The communist manifesto is much more recent, but I wouldn't want a communist government.

"Obey the Constitution"?? I can't believe an educated person would ask a question like that? You'd better do some reading before class, and maybe question your teacher as to what exactly he/she means by "obey".
And, no, it is NOT irrelevant! (except to Dubya and his ilk....)

The Constitution is NOT irrelevant. It is the rules that are the foundation of our government and have proven valid and workable for over two hundred years. We should not change a thing about it. Sadly, ever since FDR (the one President who has done the most violence to our Constitution) every President since has eroded it a little more.

The constitution protects us from an over zealous government. It is the government we want to follow the constitution so it won't turn into a dictatorship.

Because good men are dying every day to defend it. As for irrelevant, that's what amendments are for. To update it according to needs. Good God! I'm not even American and yet I understand this!
