because the other one prefers to sleep alone then with the person they married. They may have a problem with being too close to someone else. They may be disturbing to sleep with, snoring or they get to sweaty or their cold.
Maybe that is why the marriage works, cause they don't have to worry about being close to each other. Just live simple day to day lives with out the emotions or affections cluttering up the mind.

I've always wondered that myself, It seems like it's mostly older people, I think because they usually have all kinds of ailments, and usually have trouble sleeping, because of whatever might be wrong with them, and rather than keep their other half awake all night, they just feel it's better to have separate beds.
If not for that reason, then I really would have no idea what the reason would be!

It's healthier not to be clingy 100 per cent of the time, like a couple of babies (especially for men).
My parents had separate bedrooms all the years I was growing up, but then they weren't pigs like most people today.

some people sleep best alone, medical reasons, or just because they are married it doesn't mean they love each other and don't want a divorce.

Sometimes my husband snores or my children wake up and want to curl up in bed with me... So, instead of waking up my husband I'll just take the little one's with me.. Since he gets up earlier than I do....
