It's just something we say. I've been told I say it all the time. I dont even realise when I do. It's not like we think about it "ok, I'm going to say Eh at the end of this sentence." It doesnt work that way. It's just something that comes out without any thought.

Just one of those things, but it isn't just Canadians who say eh. Very common for all countries to use little words like that. The whole "y'all" thing that some Southerners use is a similar example I guess. Probably better examples but can't think of any.

Canadians say "Eh" just like Americans put "like" at the start of somewhere when they describe something that happened.

EH is used to confirm the attention of whom you are speaking to as well as engage anyone who may want to participate when it is an open conversation...sort of an invite cause we are just so darn social! hope the info helps!

Huh?

Is that better?

Some regions of the US beat the 'huh' thing to death. Same thing with 'eh' in Canada and some regions in the US. If you're in a 'huh' region, 'eh' seems to stand out as unusual, but 'huh' is so common you would not notice its use. And vise versa.
