I've been trying to find a number but every site seems to have something different and I'm not sure which one is most reliable and most accurate.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

I am 'nitpicking', but current estimates are about 21,000 to 22,500 genes in the human genome. The most often quoted 'guesses' of total different proteins I have seen range from 90,000 to 120,000+.
