I have to do a group project in my History Class. You have to do a Collage of the following: What is an American? What America means to me, and My Impressions on the United States.

So my impressions of the United States is that we have a president that's on crack, we're filled with illegals (I have nothing against the illegals because my parents were once illegals). . . I could go on but I'd get in trouble for saying all that. So I need some ideas on What Is An American, What America means to me, and my Impressions of the United States.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could say and do?

Well, you obviously want something serious and you need to turn in something uncontroversial? If that's right, use immigration, slavery and Native Americans as a theme for diversity in America--that's all history stuff. That's the "what is an American part." Then talk about how we are divided as a nation right now and how we disagree with each other. That's permitted in our country and political fights started with George Washington so disagreement and division is American, too. (more ties to history).

What American means to you--think about the things you have and the things you can do and develop a freedom/liberty theme for that portion. Obviously, in some countries, you couldn't even post the question; or you'd be working in a factory 12 hours a day and not going to school, i.e. illiterate--anyway--list the things you do every day and use that as a freedom/liberty theme for part 2.
Your impressions of the U.S. ? That's easy because you really can be honest and not be faulted. Throw in an introduction about the Constitution and Bill of Rights and then talk about the problems we face today. Look at the problems like slavery, the Civil War, the Great Depression, WWII, 9/11 and talk about how we persevered. Read the newspaper or go to a site like realclearpolitics for a few days and read about current problems. Conclude with something like being an American means being a conscious and politically-aware citizen because you vote for individuals who influence the world either negatively or positively. I suggest your impressions be pretty frank--even harsh--but your conclusion, if you're really honest--should have some hope if you look at everything we've been through as a nation.

Turn off the political news and look at your life and all the things you have and opportunities for your future. People have come to America for a better life for over 200 years and many still want to. Talk to your parents about why they came. The things that look so bad today will be no more that a memory 10 years from now, and Bush will be a footnote in history. He is not what America is about.

its crazy how you have that wak idea of "we're filled wit illegals." and you are going to get in trouble for an idea like that cause you do not have your facts straight. where have you been brainwashed?

anyways... think about why you think the president is "on crack?" and then grow from there. think of things visually and how it is best to describe this visually.

its a pretty easy assignment. good luck.
