The math to do this is long and I didn't want to write it out. Instead I wrote some simple computer code and ran a simulation to find that there are 8! = 40320 possible permutations of the 8 people.

of these permutations, there are 13824 permutations were the spouses are not sitting next to each other.

the probability is therefore 13824/40320 = 12/35 = 0.342857
