My lease runs up in mid December for the place i'm at now. I don't want to go too early and I don't want to wait until the last minute. When is a good time to start checking out other places?

I'm moving to a smaller, cheaper place so I can save up money for a house. I've lived in an apartment complex for a year and i'd like to give a privately owned apartment duplex type place a try, but I guess i'll start looking very soon. Thanks for the help guys.

Now is a good time. At least get an idea bout what part of town and what is required for the new location. Find a place you'd like to live and start checking if any apartments will be opening up in that complex in Dec.

Real estate market being ho wit is, you may even be ready to buy a house or cond - lease with the option to purchase.

Lucky me gives good advice on selecting an area of town and even looking into apartment complexes at this point.

If you are looking for an apartment in a house or a duplex or a rental home it is likely that people leaving haven't even given their landlords notice at this point. I would start that search about halfway through October. Many of those apartments would be for a Nov. 1 occupancy, but some Dec. 1 might be on the market. Early November will be the richest listings for early December occupancy.
