The only, and rare, circumstance where a supercharger would reduce fuel usage would be when the vehicle was constantly being used at its limits and straining to pull loads a lot. The added power of the supercharger would allow the engine to run better than the poor efficiency at the high end.
You will never save enough on gas to pay for the charger.

It will be worth it! We have done many automatic mustangs with mostly the Vortech Supercharger and they work wonderfully. You have to consider that adding the supercharger will give you around 45% increase in HP. So you can expect around a 100-140 HP gain just by adding the supercharger. With a dramatic HP increase like that you can expect to see good results. Now since the Vortech is a centrifugal type of supercharger that means that the boost will build up per RPM speed. So basically at 2000 RPM you might see 1psi of boost and at redline you will see the full 8-10psi of boost. So even if your vehicle is automatic or manual the supercharger still has to build up boost don’t matter what kind of drive-train you have. With an automatic transmission you will be able to see more consistent track times and on top of that with the extra HP you will be hard to beat. This most likely will be the best bang for your buck. You can get almost every aftermarket part on the market and it will not give you the HP gain that the supercharger will provide you. And believe me the supercharger will give you tons of HP. Usually the Vortech will come 100% complete so nothing else is needed for it to work properly. Vortech really tries to design their systems around a stock application so you don’t have to worry about buying extra stuff to make it reliable. I think you will benefit strongly from it.

Not necessarily, a supercharger is a form of "forced induction" meaning that the fuel-air mixture is forced into your combustion chamber as where a N/A or "naturally aspirated" which your car is most likely now has to suck this mixture in. The advantage of "forced induction" is you get a denser or more compact fuel mixture which results in a significant power increase which will most likely make you want to speed all the time and therefore end up with worse fuel economy. I would merely suggest a tune up or perhaps an aftermarket air filter but not anything extravagant like a supercharger or performance exhaust.

No, it won't make it more fuel efficient. A supercharger will make more power...... and use more gas. A supercharger compresses air and forces it under pressure into the motor, and the proper amount of fuel must be mixed with the air in order to burn properly. More air needs more fuel.......to make more horsepower. Your gas mileage will go down. The best thing you can do to save fuel is modify your driving habits. Accelerate slowly from a stop sign or stop lite, get off the gas and coast when you come up to a stop, and maintain a steady speed when you're on the highway...... many people get on the gas and then off of it while driving... and that wastes gas.

A supercharger will take power from the engine to create power. it's like running your AC. Your gas mileage decreases because the AC compressor is running. A supercharger is basically a compressor for forcing air in to the intake. Forcing the air increases your HP while accelerating. while cursing however it's putting a load on the engine to compress the air going in to the motor. Your friend is wrong about the supper charger. This is one reason why turbo are so widely uses on normal cars. at cruse or at idle there is very little load on the engine allowing the motor to be more efficient. Now factory installed super chargers had an idler clutch installed on them to allow the supercharger to almost shut them selves off while at cruse or idling. If you can find one that operates like that, you should see not only more power while accelerating but get good mileage out of the engine (probably 1 maybe 2 more miles to the gallon. But for the most part it does not benefit you as these devices are designed for acceleration power not cruse power. Your mileage is at it lowest while accelerating.

Generally a turbo boosts the air and you would get an assist in acceleration--but it only assists with the amount of available fuel that the car can supply from the tank---so to go faster you STILL use more fuel. And the units are expensive to buy and installed is probably 2500 dollars total..if not more. So the whole answer is drive like a human being --driveslower and take care of you car. SAVE the 2500 for a vacation.

Ask yourself this question: how much gas could I buy for the cost of a supercharger?
(And NO -- a paste-on supercharger will save no fuel at all).

a supercharged increases the volumetric efficiency of your engine (possibly over 100%) which means that it uses fuel more efficiently and less is wasted. so yes, under normal driving conditions (not floored) you should get better mileage. and also, a 4 or 6 cylinder doesn't usually have very much torque, so you have to get more into the throttle to get moving. the supercharger will give you more torque, so you use less throttle to get moving. less throttle means less fuel being used.

Nooooo, superchargers consume more fuel, and the engine will wear out faster. But, it is worth it...
