Speak to your doctor about this, but if you are going on the pill tomorrow, that would normally mean you are at the beginning of your cycle. Usually, you start your pills on Day One of your cycle, but there are alternatives. You do need to take seven continuous days of a hormone-containing pill to be protected from pregnancy. (Some brands have 7 pills that have no hormones but may have iron or something else. Others just have you skip seven days before starting a new pack.)
To skip the period during the visit, you would start a new pack (or start the active pills and skip the non hormone ones if you use that kind) without a break. Some newer brands only have you stop every three months for a "period" which isn't a real period at all. Be sure to ask your provider. You need specific instructions for the type and brand of pill you have prescribed to you.
Whatever you choose, you should know that in the first month or two of using hormonal birth control, you may have some spotting and breakthrough bleeding, so understand that this could happen. You can still have sex, and some options to make this less messy are using menstrual cups or the female condom. (And unless you are 1,000% sure of fidelity and being disease free, you still need to use condoms.)
A hint to you is to make a list of your questions about the pill and anything else and take it to the doctor with you. If it is written down, you are less likely to forget something important.
People in health care have been happily skipping their periods by taking the pill continuously for decades. I sure did and it was a great help. Who wants to play a baseball tournament with cramps? Or go camping lugging "sanitary products" let alone having to deal with the used ones in the woods? Just be certain you know which pills are active and exactly how and when to take them.
It is really, really important to take them at the same time every day, so pick a time you can stick to. Also, be aware that some antibiotics and other medications interfere with oral contraceptives and you should always tell a doctor you take them and ask whether you need to use an alternate method while on certain meds.
Have a nice trip, too.

If you start the pill immediately then you will probably not have a period in two weeks time, though during the first three months of starting a new pill you may get some breakthrough bleeding. You will be protected against pregnancy after taking an active pill each day for seven days in a row. You shouldn't get a period until you get to the sugar pills of the pack, but because it's the first month it might be a little stuffed up.
If you are certain that you aren't pregnant, you can start the pill any time of the month. Starting on a Saturday or Sunday will mean that your period will always fall during the week, rather than on weekends.

You can skip the "placebo" (inactive) pills in a new pack and go straight to the other active pills to skip your period. Since you are just starting on pills it sometimes takes a little while (a month or two) for your body to get used to getting these new hormones. Ask your gyno to explain better how your body will react to the hormones.

From my previous appointments, the dr. always says to start it on the Sunday of your next period. If I remember correctly, you really can start it at any time. You're next period will be in about 21-25 days.

It's good you have an apt. with your doc., every body reacts differently to medicine including yours. It takes a month or two for the BC pill hormones to build up in your blood, you may need to use added protection.

well some pills make you start right away, but as your doctor if they want you to start the first day of your next period or on the third day of it because it can also slow it down.
