I think the senses are a natural habitat to our souls. But the word 'world' may be the culprit as it represents a long lineage of customs and habits. The problems arise from being misled into various games of materialism in which we distract ourselves so well, that our ingrained habits don't allow for finding our way back to the simple heart of things.

In some individuals I would agree. However, I also believe that without senses the soul would starve, like a plant that gets water but no sunlight. The senses feed the soul but it too is like the body in that you are what you eat. I am more likely to befriend someone who is well read, has traveled, and is willing to be open minded about most everything over someone who does nothing more than watch tv all day and does nothing to develope themselves in any way. I have little respect for anyone who is content to merely exist. To me those type of people have shallow souls and are often difficult to reason with.

I believe that you can't experience anything unless you can sense something. That is why we are sentient life. If we reach the point where we remove all our abilities to sense anything then we would be as conscious as a rock which can only sense heat and cold (if it can consciously recognize these senses.) This is why I cannot buy into the hindu/buddhist world view even though I think it is far more advanced than the judaic/christrian world view.

Souls in a spiritual sense are present in the world all though in a different diminsion. I believe they have heightened senses, knowledge, vision, and clarity.
The senses we experience as humans dictate the measure of senses by which our souls create.

Yes, the soul is influenced by the desires of the body. Too much constant desire and pleasure distracts the soul from spiritual reverence.

Yes, of course. Hindus/Buddhists call it "samara" and "maya", which mean illusion, with overtones of entanglement, entrapment.
