Now look in your book and find the defs for mantle and crust. Mantle: partially molten rock that circulates via convection. Does that describe the continents and ocean floors? No. So your answer must be crust.

As for proof that there is a mantle core and inner core, seismic mapping. Scientists know how fast certain waves travel threw certain materials and there is 3 clear levels of density.

They are part of the "crust." But more scientifically they are in the lithosphere. It extends 80km below the surface of the earth. The asthenoshpere (upper mantle) is like glass or silly putty. It moves slowly over time and is what steers the tectonic movements of the plates in the lithosphere.
