Three years ago me and my mom bought just small house plants at Wal-Mart, ferns in fact, my mom threw hers away after the season was over, but I have had mine for three years now and it keeps getting bigger and bigger. Right now it is in a 20" inch pot or about two feet by two feet. I water it every couple of days and it stays in the same spot everyday, in which this spot gets sun part of the day and shade the other part of the day.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do with my fern? It is so big that it looks awkward just sitting in my front landscaping and there really is no good place to put it. I do not want to kill it or throw it away being this is the only plant I have ever seemed to keep alive. During the winter time I have always brought it in the garage and covered it up and not watered it a drop, then I bring it back out in the spring. I have replanted it once a year and we just moved so it changed the space it was in. Any advice?

I have thought about cutting it in half, fourths, thirds or whatever but I was told by a friend that the roots are sensitive and if I do that it could die.
I am in no way a green thumb so I am really worried if I try something like that I will have no more fern.
