I wash my towels in hot water and always add a liitle bleach to disinfect them. the problem is after I take a shower and dry myself off, I have to immediately put the towel in the hamper after just using it that one time, because as soon as the towel gets wet, it has that smell to it, like when you leave a pile of wet clothes in the washer, sort of like rotten water. what can I do, is it time for new towels?

No, it is not time for new towels. It is because you are putting them in the hamper. You have to hang them on a towel rack and let them completely dry before you put them in the hamper. There is mildew growing in your towels. I know... YUCK, but it happens a lot.

if you run the towels with a 1/2 cup of white vinegar, it will take that sour smell out. wash the towels separately from the clothes. another way is put about 3/4 cup of baking soda in with your detergent, it makes the towels and clothes smell fresh. both these methods have worked well for me. I've had that sour smell in my laundry also.

Don't go out and buy more towels. Instead, soak them first in either vinegar, or if the vinegar odor stinks up your house, make a tub full of baking soda & water, let them sit about an hour, then change the water, and let them soak in bleach & water for another hour. This should get the odor out!!!

Let your towels dry before putting them in the hamper or hang them outside for bit... Also, if you add about 1/2 c. of baking soda to your wash water your towels won't have that "musty" smell....

you towels must sit in the washer to long - either every time or for a long time once. try more bleach and let them soak in hot hot water with bleach for about 25 mintues - it may help of course if they are not white ugggg they will fade

hang tehm out inthe sun to air dry after washing and then do not place in hamper after you use them until dry!!

I hate that smell too!!!

When you wash your towels, and you come to the rinse cycle, just add 2 cups of vinegar(white) this will remove the odors and make your towels soft. Vinegar is an odor eater.

Stop putting them in the hamper wet. That's where they're getting their smell from. Always dry your towels and wash clothes unless they're going straight to the washing machine.

Clean your washing machine!

As you use your washer lime scale, bio-scum and mold build up inside the tub and in the hoses. Give the top a good scrub and run the washer through a cycle with no clothing inside, on hot with 2 cups of bleach, then run another cycle with 1 cup vinegar.

Why not throw it over the top of the shower stall just till it dries off? Then put it in the hamper. It is the dampness in the hamper that is making it moldy and smelly.

That's because you are putting wet towels in the hamper and allowing mold to grow until you wash them. Use them, hang them and put them in the hamper AFTER they are dry.
