My brother is a senior in high school. He needs something to make for his woodshop class. Last year he got a 75 gallon fish tank and he built a huge base for it with drawers, cabinets, etc. He needs something better this year. He wanted to make a shed but his teacher told him he learned too much and needs something better than that. Any ideas of what he can make? He doesn't really want to make bedroom furniture because a lot of people do that and he wants something unique.

A Guillotine. Scale model of course to demonstrate the workings. He could incorporate this project into a History class thesis and a civics class demonstration on capital punishment. All the work for 3 classes!

A grandfather clock. Very involved, and it can be as simple or as intracate as you want. There is a website called Woodworkersworkshop.com were there are literally thousands of free patterns of different things you can build out of wood. Everything from doorbell chime covers, bedroom furniture (mostly mission style but some shaker and contemporary), childrens toys, boats and canoes, even one on how to build a life sized covered wagon. Not a bad place to look for ideas.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/WoodworkingProjects
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

Well, if you aren't anti-guns, he could make a beautiful gun cabinet out of old barn wood. I think that would be a very good project and a reusable resource that would have a good home when done. I have one I bought from a friend and it looks great!! (I also get several requests for the person that made it.)

My dream was always to build a Cedar chest with drawers and liftout trays. even smaller boxes inside for special treasures. I never made it but on my 41st birthday my father-in-law built me THE VERY PATTERN I had for my project in high school. My husband had found it and a year before given it to his dad. It was the most special gift I have ever been given next to my children.

It would be a treasure to his mother and/or his future wife I am sure!

You are probably tired of looking through stacks and stacks of projects on woodworking in magazines and books of all kinds for some instructions on how to do a certain project. Here is a site which offers 16000 plans https://tr.im/ManualOfWoodworking
How would you like to have woodworking plans (actually thousands of them) available to you anytime you wanted them. It would be so easy when you do not have to paw through all kinds of old magazines but have it right there at your fingertips.

Perhaps something really ornate using mortise and tenon or dovetail joints with lots of carving and inlay details using different hardwoods with interesting grains. Something like a game cabinet with chess set, backgammon, and parchisi boards.
