Rechargable batteries. They aren't very cheap...although with the new line of i-pods coming out today, some silly folk might be willing to sell off their old ones realtively cheaply.

its not cheap or easy to get... but i know that lithium is used (somehow not sure how much or anything of the like) in anti depressants
