It seems that school is a breeze to me, but I don't feel all that focused. Sometimes I feel like I can't pay attention, and then I end up forgetting things that I need to know the next time I have the class. And I am very addicted to skateboarding and music by Incubus, and it's really hard for me to not listen to music, and it's really hard for me to concentrate when I'm playing their songs through my head. I am a procrastinator usually, and even though I've been getting by with my procrastination problems, I have harder classes this year, and I'm afraid that I won't be able to do my home work. How can I stay focused?

I used to be like that in high school; except that I would always fall asleep whenever the teacher spoke. Thanks to Mr.Dyer my history teacher that made things more creative. He would let us close our eyes and put ourselves back in time and then he'd asked us what would our experiences would be if were there to tell history over again. And that made me realized I could do this with all my classes, but I became more intrigued how things are made, wondered if so so in history how their childhood was, how they became what they were, who made an impact in their lives? etc... Close your eyes and put yourself in their shoes, for instance close your eyes and think of Einstein for example...did you know he had a rough time paying attention in school, today he would have been considered autistic, and his parents were hard on him. See things like these make me intrigued and wanting to know more. Also, take vitamins and get plenty of sleep.
Einstein used to play piano and violin when he needed a break when he was studying.

Oh, one more thing, when reading don't skip to the next page until you understand what you just read, if you don't know a word, look it up in the dictionary. I swear this time will work!
good luck:)

Pay attention in class(in most classes, even college, they just review what's in the textbook). Read assigned chapters/pages. Takes notes during both class and reading. Review your notes a couple times a day. If you have a really hard time concentration, see your doctor. Adderal is usually a great thing for concentration. It makes studying FUN! This is no exaggeration. It does have some side affects. 1. Weight-loss, that's not so bad. The other is irritability. But, it's an awesome drug. Once you get off of it, you will be able to concentrate fine also. I would suggest the adderal. But, ask your doctor.

I am in college. I really don't take notes. I just read the chapters a couple times (most people can't do this in college) but, I can read very fast and still understand the stuff. It's called visual reading. It's amazing. But, it should be easy for you. Take notes, ask your teacher if they are good notes, then memorize your notes. Very easy!

Hello Gabi

There is a little trick to staying focused at school, Many pupils find it hard to understand why studying and getting those results at school is important

So lets look at the positives, On completing school the world opens its doors for you as a young adult with many opportunities such as exchange programs oversea's, good jobs or a career that you like to do
so what you do today will gt you where you want to be tomorrow

Figure out what and where you want to be when you leave school and that will keep you focused on the now

for without the now there may not be the things you want in your life later

Hope this helps

options: 1- Have your social life going. As in hanging out with friends and sport, but take your cell away from yourself. I know its like taking soemones life away. But that is how you learn to live without your phone, and you see you have enough time for other things. 2-Find a job, preferably a boring job, that you have to sit and do nothing really and instead do you study there to pass time faster. 3- Find a nerd in your class who always wants to be the first, and befriend him/her. You will notice that you will start becoming like on of them. Because they will naturally be your competition and also a friend which you cant count their support to help you if you fall a bit behind. 4- maybe you are not interested in the field you are, but you are there because of an indirect force , maybe from your social life or family that says you need to be this. Explore other fields and see what you are interested in. 5- people who are successful are not the nerds who got straight A'S all through their life, but are people who are connected well , are sociable people and friendly and open minded. You do have ll those if you are active outside. Education is important , but you should explore what are the strongest skills you have in yourself that brings you out and makes you different from everyone else.

You want to make sure that you get plenty of exercise outside of school (and maybe during breaks if you can pull it off). Then, choose periods when it's especially important to be on task and force yourself to really concentrate on what's happening. If you have to, write EVERYTHING down that's being said to keep you in focus. Then, if there's a period when nothing that important is happening, allow yourself a little break. You're going to have to really be aware of when you are and are not focusing.

Ask your parents to take you for a visit to a homeless shelter under the pretext that you are doing a research project for school. Ask to interview some of the people and ask them their stories. If that doesn't focus you, you will never be focused.

actually,
i have the same problem.
keep yourself organized,
when you study or do homework go into a quiet place,
don't get distracted,
when your at school pay attention to the teacher and you will understand better,
if you ignore your friends or say"im trying to focus" it will help you focus more.

You might have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Talk with a doctor, preferably a psychaitrist. If that's what it is, you can take medication which will make your life much better.
