It's just because a fly got in there and laid eggs. go to the self car wash and use one of those vacuums and vacuum every inch of the carpet and that will get rid of them. I don't know of any bug killer that kills them.

Maggots are the larva of flies from eggs being laid on food scraps. Bug stuff is not going to affect the eggs and probably have little effect on the larva. Keeping a can of flying insect spray inside the car and spraying a small amount (the car isn't that large inside) when flies are noticed while getting out. Fly strips might work non-toxically buy the heat in a parked car might ruin them quickly - don't know.

If your wife is that concerned about it being clean, then I would take the car to a professional detailer and explain to them the situation so they are sure to work that area thoroughly.

I am guessing that you can barely afford to scratch your nose with the cost of gas for that thing, but spend the money. This will make your wife happy which is always a good thing. Plus, she will feel like her expedition is new again which will also make her feel good.

She probably doesn't want to hear this, but just relax.
Those maggots will probably do a better clean-up job than you can.
Since the carpet is synthetic, they can't eat that, so they'll just clean up the spill very completely and die off.

leave the car for about a week with the doors open:- the maggots will turn into flies and fly off. then clean the carpet.
job done.
