I study astronomy and I still do not understand the current theory that the Big Bang created time and space. Before the Big Bang happened, there must have been time. A time before the elements were getting ready to expand. A time before the elements of hydrogen and helium existed. How electrons and other subatomic particles came into existence may never be known. I think physicists state that time began with the Big Bang because they begin measuring time from that point. but let's say for the sake of arguement that just a single atom exists. It would have an electron traveling around it. As the electron would have motion. The electron would not be in all places of it's orbit at once. Therefore, it would require what we call time to travel from one place to the next. Time is after all only a measurement tool. For measuring movement or the length of an event or the length between events. It would appear that the given atom would exist in time without the occurance of a Big Bang.

The Big Bang is currently thought to be expanding not from a single point but from all points. Every galaxy would appear to be at the center of the universe. I have heard of this explained as a balloon being blown up. It would seem however that if one were to blow up a balloon, it would be occupying more space on the inside of the balloon and decreasing space on the outside of the balloon. If the space on the outside of the balloon is decreasing or being compressed, it would seem to have existed prior to blowing up the balloon.

I guess the short answer is no-one really knows. The greatest minds are trying to find out but even within the Big Bang theory are many differing theories. We are still very young when it comes to knowing these things. Much more advancements and knowledge about the structure and make-up of the universe need to be made. Even then, the answers to your questions may never be known.

Taking these words as you think you understand them...

'Time' and 'Space' occurred as a result of 'The Big Bang'. They can't exist without 'Matter', anyway.

Its an 11 dimensional matrix mathematical thing.

Relax.

There may indeed be "nothing" if you add it all up - least in the sense of all conserved properties adding up to zero (including energy). It may just be separated into positive and negative regions.

If the BB had not occurred, no, there would not be time or space, at least of macroscopic extent.

no time and space was a consequence of the big bang , a distortion from incredible forces

according to the theory it created time and space, so if it didnt happen there would be nothing, no matter, no energy, no time, no space...and no yahoo!answers.

Because if there was nothing, you wouldn't be here to ask.
