I grew up with a very abusive & controlling father. My whole life I've always tried to do the right thing and suffered my own happiness at the sake of everyone elses. Everything I do in life has to be perfect and if its not then I worry over the most unnecessary things. I'm trying to figure out where does this need for perfection stem from and how in the world can I get rid of it????

You're taking control the only way you know how, the only way you may be comfortable with.

When your manager/boss figures out you're a perfectionist they'll see you as not being a team player, too concerned with "your part". Rather than overthink how to "not be a perfectionist" learn to recognize when it's most inappropriate and act accordingly.

Strive for balance in the company of others.

You might do some reading on the 1 type of the Enneagram. They have some great insights and ideas as well as thoughts on how to accept yourself and move past the perfectionism.

Check out The Enneagram Institute online or the book, "Wisdom of the Enneagram."

It's good stuff.

You're just creating a drama. You have no perfectionist complex. It's all in the head. You are free to create any drama you want. You are the creator of your own reality.

Sometimes when your parents are hard to please, you come to believe that if you can just do things right you will make them happy and be loved. This can cause you to develop into a perfectionist--because you learn to believe that you're only worthy of love if you do everything perfectly.
