Hardly any price difference. I don't know what applications you will be running. Both of them exchange blows when it comes to overall performance.

Use the link below and the page gives you comparisons between processors.

For little bit lesser price you are getting the same performance in games, MUCH better performance in certain applications from the Quad Core. Thats a bonus!

DO NOT CHOOSE THE PRICE/PERFORMANCE INDEX, who knows what the prices were when they tested.

"....software such as Photoshop, Pinnacle Studio Plus, QuickTime and 3D Studio Max all greatly benefited from the power of four dedicated cores"

I would stay stick to the Quad Core. Tremendous value for money.Buy the Quad Core. You won't have to worry about upgrading for the next 2 years. If they bring out games that use the multi cores, you will not regret having those extra two cores.

****************************

AFTER SEEING THE APPLICATIONS YOU ARE RUNNING, ITS BETTER YOU GO FOR THE QUAD CORE !!!!

The e6700 is a stronger processor.

The Q6600 is quad core, but very little software can take real advantage of it.

My advice: Go for the e6700, and once quad-core lifts off, u can easily upgrade. the e6700 will perform better than the q6600 in games.

I would say the Q6600 quad core (8MB L2 cache 2.4 MHz).

First it has double cache memory, second it has double the amount of cores.

If price is no object, and you are running Vista Professional, the quad processor will run rings around the slightly faster dual processor.

If you are like most people and do more than 1 thing at a time on your PC, those 4 processors will keep you happy. They are pricey, though.

The first one as no software really exist that utilize a quad core and wont be for a few years.
