do what they would do if you went to the hospital.....ICE. Lay on your tummy with a pillow under your pelvis to hyper extend the spine and put an ice pack on it. The ice will numb the area, AND reduce inflammation from the injury thereby reducing the effects of the injury. ICE for at least 20 minutes every hour.

I pulled a muscle in my lower back when I was 7 months pregnant. i went to the ER and was admitted (because of the pregnancy) They had me sleep on a heat pack. They gave me very little pain meds in a drip. I was able to walk about 3 wks later. 2 yrs later the same thing happened. (I was not pregnant) I had some of those heat packs that get hot when opened, they wrap around you like a belt. I don't remember the name. The next day I went to the er and they gave me vicodine and muscle relaxer. I stayed in bed until I could stand up straight (about 2-3 days) then slowly exercised my back. I still have problems out of it. So until you can get to a Dr take some Advil or any kind of OTC pain reliever. Apply heat and try to strecth your back. And be careful not to do the same thing to "throw it out" again.

See your doctor as soon as you can. You may need some therapy to help you deal with the pain. Patches.
