Cargo brake light does work when brakes are applied, all turn signals work. Reverse lights work. Took it to dealership today, got charged 100 bucks for a brake switch. Now they say that didn't fix the problem and it's the turn signal module and it's another $225 to tear the steering column apart to replace.

Check fuses also, they all look good, checked bulbs, they look good also. Also replaced the tail light circuit boards. Could this really be the flasher module? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

While hitting the brakes wiggle the turn signal lever and see if the lights come on. Very common on GM to be the turn signal switch. An obvious mis-diagnisis which you should be refunded for.

And that's coming from a mechanic, not a customer.

PS for the morons answering a question they know NOTHING about. The brake light circuit goes through the turn signal switch so that when you re on the brake AND want to turn....... you activate the turn signals..... the solid light ( brake) now becomes a blinking light (turn) the only way you can use the same bulb for turn AND brake is to run the brake light circuit through the turn signal switch.

The upper pART OF THE STEERING COLUMN HAS TO COME APART TO REPLACE IT. WITH SPECIAL TOOLS.

YOU CANNOT DO THIS REPAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FOR THE IDIOT THAT SAID LIKE ONLY 3 HOURS, WHAT DO THINK THEY CHARGE FOR AN HOUR OF LABOR????? AND $15 FOR THE PART, SOUNDS LIKE A CHINESE SWITCH TO ME. FOR A DELCO SWITCH WITH MARKUP PLAN ON $50 FOR THE PART. THEN 2 HOURS LABOR AT $90.00 AND YOUR THERE.

IF THE TURN SIGNALS WORK THEN THE CIRCUIT, AND FUSE ARE GOOD. HAVE ATURN SIGNAL SWITCH PUT IN IT.

PS. IF YOU HAVEN'T A CLUE DON'T ANSWER THE QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You say turn signals work. Why would they want to change turn signal moduke ?? Cargo brake works then all should work. Should not have changed switch. They are on same circuit. Turn signals work on brake light circuit so this means bulbs are good. Never heard of tail light circuit boards but if they were replaced you lost some more money. NEVER replace any part till you know the problem. Never go to dealer except for warranty work. You should test the tail light switch and make sure it is closing when brake is applied. I would guess it works as cargo light works but guessing causes problems. You need to trace the wires from the stop lights forward to find where the disconnect is. The dealer has access to a wiring diagram and I would think he owes you a bit of diagnostic work for all the mistakes he has made. Diagnosis is best not changing parts.

The side brake lights are wired on a separate circuit from the center high-mount stop light. If the CHMSL works but the left and right lights don't then it is not the brake switch. Next most likely culprit is the turn signal or multi-function switch as I believe this vehicle has dual-element bulbs (turn signal/tail light and brake lights on one bulb) this is the next most likely cause. Had a Grand Prix in the shop today with the identical problem and replacing the multi-function switch fixed it.

And no, it can't be the flasher either because your turn signals work.

Check it out i know there are other mechanics out there but in my experience the turn signal switch/module, its all one piece includes turn signals, cruse control, and your emergency flashers and is common that they go bad.But the cheater fix to this push the emergency flasher button up and down a few times that works nine out of ten times.Try it one more thing if you tow a trailer disconnect the T where your trailer lights hook up and connect it straight.especially if you tow a boat the connection gets all rusty inside and makes a bad connection.

dang dude. that switch only runs about 13 dollars. boy did they take it to you. i woud take it to another dealer. if it is the sig mod it's not hard to do. should only take 3 hours tops to repair. plus the price of the part.
