I know the most expensive is a landscape by Paul Cezanne, coming to a Phillips auction on May 7, could become the most expensive painting in history. The buzz says the No. 3 auction house is looking to leapfrog itself into dominance by selling the painting for more than $82 million--currently the highest price ever paid for art at auction.

I'm looking for the most Valuable painting anyone know?

The Mona Lisa, the Last Supper and the ceiling of the Sistine chapel. All are priceless and irreplaceable.

If you read the rest of the article:
"The [Cezanne] painting is highly desirable and very likely to exceed its $35 million to $45 million estimate, but it lacks the blockbuster appeal or timing of the Van Gogh. Under its own steam, it probably would not reach the $80 million mark. This may not be good enough for LVMH's Arnault, who may want the attention only a record can produce."

It goes on to describe the machinations he'll go through to boost the price of the Cezanne to top the highest-priced painting, Van Gogh's "Portrait of Dr. Gachet."

This still doesn't answer your question about the most VALUABLE painting. Some art is priceless, and to me that gives it more value than any painting that can be bought and sold for millions. Take the Mona Lisa, for instance. You can't put a price tag on that lady.

Mona Lia, baby. The creation of that painting was a breakthrough in the history of art. It made Raphael cry with its beauty. It can never be bought, never can be replaced, never be duplicated, and it is also the world's most famous painting.

Vincent van Gogh's work has to be in the top ten. I'd say any painting that was a "first" (Ones that went against convention.) would be extremely valuable.
