Teams will generally schedule weekday afternoon games, often times for scheduling and traveling perposes. For example if the Baltimore Orioles, an east coast team finish up a homestand (a group of home games) then have to travel to the west coast, they will generally opt to play an afternoon game so that they don't have to fly 4 to 5 hours at night arriving at the airport on the west coast at the very least by 2am east coast time.
Some teams will also do day games in order to accomidate the opponants' travel schedule if their next destination is far away (I suppouse as an unwritten rule for all teams)
The Chicago Cubs on the other hand are well known for scheduling days games because it is what their fans have become accustomed too, and some of which seem to like it.
FYI in reference to what the poster below me wrote, the Chicago Cubs play their home games at Wrigley Field. Also known as he put it as simply "Wrigley"

Well to answer your question on that, yes they do. there are some teams that do have midday games in the middle of the week. I know because I work at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas USA. some games can start as early as 12:05pm or can start as late as 9:40pm so it all depends on who is matched up with who and what day of the week it is and what time zone (eg.. 9:05pm in NY would mean a 7:05pm game on the west coast or 8:05pm in TX would mean a 7:05pm game in the midwest; I do know that on Thursday August 30, 2007, the Houston Astros had a midday game against the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:05pm CT (2 - 1 final score/Astros win). Now as to why they have midday games im unsure, but i do know that we have had early games about 3x a month for this season alone. I hope that answers your question.

Yes, while most games are scheduled at night during the week, occassionally midweek games are scheduled during the day.
In fact, for many years, the Chicago Cubs played only day games because they had no lights at Wrigley Field. They finally installed them in 1988 (wow! doesn't seem that long ago!!!)
Most day games start in early afternoon like at 12:30 or 1 p.m.

Sure, Mate!
Wrigley is renown for day games. Prior to 1988, they were the only ballpark to NOT have lighting for night games.
Many series conclude with an afternoon tilt to provide for extra travel time for teams that have to get to the next city. The term is called Get-Away Day. Many home teams have Business Day Specials and/or Senior Citizen Days to draw bigger attendance for these games that start anywhere from 12:15 to 1:35 local time.
