I have to disagree with "WiiMan" Jen. HRE Charles V was clearly against the Reformation. He tried Luther at the Diet of Worms (check out 'Diet of Worms' on a search engine), but the Holy Roman Emperor did not have absolute power and Luther had protection from some powerful German nobility. [Otherwise Luther would certainly have been killed like Savonarola.]
Henry VIII of England was married to Charles V's aunt, Catharine of Aragon, so Henry was Charles' uncle by marriage. Henry had written a defense of the Roman Church against Luther and been lauded as 'Defender of the Faith' by the pope. Henry only changed his tune when the pope would not annul his marriage to Catharine in the late 1520s and early 1530s when Henry wanted to marry Anne Boleyn. Henry was not about religious toleration. It was His way or the chopping block as Thomas More and many others found out.

Research Martin Luther

Charles was pretty tolerant about it since England was a religously tolerant state back then. Look to France as they ruthlessly persecuted Protestants.
