Because we are dependent upon the person who recorded the past to have recorded it accurately. He or she might have a bias or be relying on incomplete information.

Because two people can witness the same event and have very different interpretations of how and why it happened. Just think about the last argument you had with someone...

Because it's left to the interpretation of others and both sides must be researched to see what is factual.

Because we often look at it biased....for example....instead of looking at how the Viet Nam war affected the world as a whole, we look at the way it affected America alone.

Go to England and take a class on the American Revolution and see if it looks the same in their history books. Go to a predominantly white area of the deep south and see how they view the Civil War, etc......

- Because history is usually told from the view of the winning or more dominant side.

- Because only the important or dramatic parts are remembered- ordinary life is often not documented as well.

History is written by the winners. therefore, it depends on who wins. you will get a different picture depending on who is doing the writing.
