My husband is concerned that he will have his prostate checked (via anal) when he takes a physical for his company. It is in Florida by the department of transportation.

Also, do you know what age they start doing this? Thanks

i don't think a prostate exam is part of a DOT physical. However, the old faithful, turn your head and cough is.

As for the prostate exam, he probably doesn't need one until he's 40 or so, unless he is having some type of problem such as problems urinating, erectile dysfunction, bowel problems, etc. His doctor should be able to calm his fears.

Now, tell him if he needs the exam to just get it. It really is no big deal. It is a little uncomfortable, but not just horrible or anything. It's actually not as bad as most folks think.

Remind him to keep a sense of humor about it. When I had my first exam at age 31 for a problem, when it was done, i asked my doctor if he didn't at least owe me dinner and a movie or something. He broke completely up as he walked out of the room. It ain't nothing but part of being a man. If he needs the exam, get it. Don't let him put his health at risk because of fear or anxiety over a test that literally millions of men have every year.

Good luck, and happy driving in Florida

That is not a part of an employment physical. There would not be a reason to check it. But it's not a big deal if they do.
