Who was it that George Stienbrenner (Yankee Owner) hired and fired in a public news conference in front of all the media?

I remember seeing a clip of it once on TV. Basically George introduced someone as manager and the that person took the stage said how "I am gonna make all these changes" then George ran back up on stage and started yelling saying "I'm in charge here not you." then they argued and George let out his infamous "You're fired" in fron of the press.

I thiink it was like back in the 80s.

The commercial, and the real-life drama, with George and Billy were comical! RIP Martin.

It was a joke. Steinbrenner said to Billy Martin "You're fired", to which Martin replied "But you haven't hired me yet". The reporters at the press conference laughed hysterically. Of course he did hire and fire him at least twice after that--for real.
