They've been recruited and BRAINWASHED.

The cult is mostly a high powered scam. It pays members 10% commissions, called FSM (Field Staff Member) commissions, for bringing in new recruits who take a course or get counseling, so Scientology members routinely try to "sell" Scientology to others.

The new members then, in turn, are required to pay vast amounts of money to the "church" in order to receive "auditing", courses, literature, take tests, retake tests, etc. Here is a run-down of all the costs involved with Scientology membership: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_as_a_business#Costs

Scientology exerts control over its members by means of typical cult tactics, including but not limited to controlling information about internal doctrine & criticism of the organization, severely restricting social contact outside the cult (including the practice of “disconnecting” with any family who question the credibility & trustworthiness of the cult), creating an “us against them” mentality by villainizing a specific out-group (for Scientology, it’s psychiatrists), & claiming all those outside the cult are unenlightened.

From its earliest days, the founder of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, emphasized recruiting celebrities. Although Hubbard is dead now, the Church of Scientology still does so, and has a number of "Celebrity Centres."

The more money you put into it, the more successful it makes you (from what I have heard). It's most likely a huge PR campaign hiding behind the 'religion' of Scientology.

I'm a Scientologist myself and I can answer this based off my life.

I didn't find it right to worship some higher being, I'm just trying to get my life together and have a good moral. So Scientology works for me. I don't praise someone, I just keep myself in check, if I need help I can take courses or get auditing.

I'm not going to push it onto someone else but it makes sense.

I must say though, my boyfriends parents are friends with John Travolta and Kirstie Alley and they are amazing people!
They have helped a lot of people and Tom Cruise has aswell.

It's not a cult or anything like that. You just keep yourself in check and make sure you're in good ethics. Honestly Scientology has gotten a lot of people off drugs, taken criminals and made them good people in society, took lazy people and made them hard workers. Etc.

But I'm not here to "preach" so I'll be on my way...

but one last thing, it's not just celebs. It's every day people like myself who got into it on their own. No one pushing me or talking me into it.
