The rising and setting of everything in the sky is caused by the rotation of the Earth. So the Moon rises in the East just like the Sun, the stars and the planets.

Because the Moon orbits the Earth, it rises later each day by 50 minutes, give or take. This is because as it moves around the Earth in the same direction as its spin, the Earth has to spin longer to bring it back to the horizon.

If the Earth were not rotating, we would see the Sun and Moon rise in the West and set in the East; the Moon would take 14 "days" to cross the sky and the Sun 180 "days."

It's not a stupid question; the moon rises in the east and sets
in the west like the other celestial objects. Go out and look
to see for yourself. Because of its orbital motion around the
earth, the moon rises and sets a little later each day till it
makes a complete cycle (new moon to new moon) and
starts the cycle all over.

The Sun, the Moon, the planets, and the stars all rise in the east and set in the west. And that's because Earth spins -- toward the east.

Just like the sun and the stars, the moon rises in the east.
Its not a stupid question, but I just wonder how you could not know.

east..... but the moon doesn't rise...... it's the sun that 'rises'. the moon becomes visible when the earth rotates and the side that was facing the sun is now no longer facing it. (in that particular cycle that is "day" and "night")........ the earth is rotating. thus why we have day and night ..... the sun and the moon don't actually "rise" but more or less the earth is spinning on it's axis.... which gives the appearace of it 'rising' over the horizon.

It isn't a stupid question; it's just a mysterious one. How on earth could you not know that? Do you live in a concrete-lined pit with no TV, radio, or books? Is this the first minute you have ever been on the internet? No school? No social interaction?

I am just flabbergasted. I would appreciate it if you would post an edit to explain why you don't know. Thanks.
