I have usually pointed out that their perceptions are wrong.
The most frequent is those who perceive that I have more money than they do. In some cases, this is true. However, they overlook what steps I took to gain an education and work to accomplish this. It wasn't handed to me and it took many years.
Envy overlooks many things. Envy often contains resentments that have nothing to do with the person being envied.
I didn't feel anything. Their envy is their feeling, it has nothing to do with me.
When people envy they tend to do one of three things, ignore you as the envy is strong and is hoped to be avoided, spite you and exact their revenge on you for having, or emulate you and try to become like you.

I hate it when people are envious of me and it happens way to often. Usually it happens because of what I have and they don't have. It makes me uncomfortable and sad for them and maybe just a ting of guilt on my part.

I had a college roommate call my boyfriend and ask him to take her to church. (She happened to be the same religion as him.) She also would put the garbage can in front of the door so she knew exactly when I came in.
I asked to have a new roommate my sophomore year.

When my sister-in-law was still living, she used to be jealous of my husband and me, because my father-in-law used to give us cars, TVs, motorbikes, money, etc. She said he never gave her husband (other son) and her anything. Well, they owned half the family business, and my husband was doing Christian work. I was just nice to her and tried to remind her of everything she did have. Finally, she died of cancer, and I am still living. Her husband is married again and my husband is still living. So it never pays to be so jealous of someone else, does it? You certainly can not take it with you.
