To people still practice this in their households? To me it sounds comical and cliche nowadays.

I got my mouth washed out when I was younger; my mother brushed my teeth with Palmolive dish liquid for calling her a turd. yuck

Yuck I still remember that soapy aftertaste that never seems to go away. Yes ill admit that I was a little foul mouth as a child but i dont think I would put any child through that punishment if I were a parent myself. I think that it works but it probably does not fit the crime ( In MOST cases.....)

If I ever have swearing kids i think I would take away toys and other privileges like that instead.

I don't think of it as comical. I DO believe that it does work to some degree, and I also believe it should be practiced today.

no in our family its was chili we used or hotsause and we had it rubbed on our lips. yeah, my mom only did it once to me and i hate anything spicy. i can't stand the smell of jalapenos.
