the length of a rectangle garden is 2 more than 3 times the width. the perimeter is 100 ft. find the length and width?

so L=3x+2
and p=100
100=3x+2+w
i gues this im so confused?

We need to change things a little

W = x
L = 3x + 2

P = 2L + 2W = 100
L + W = 50

L + W = 50
(3x + 2) + x = 50
4x + 2 = 50
4x = 48
x = 12 ft

W = x = 12 ft
L = 3x + 2 = 3*12 + 2 = 38 ft

use variables like w for width and l and p. not x its kinda confusing that way.

Set it up as a system and solve it that way
so
L =2+3w
100 = 2(w) + 2(L)

Plug L into the second equation (since L is given to you) and find w. Then when you know w (and checked it) you should plug w into the second equation to find L.
