A game starts off with a coin toss which the road team calls heads or tails. The team that wins the coin toss gets to pick if they want to play on offense or defense first. The other teams gets to pick which endzone they want to defend. Offense is when a team has the football and is trying to score points. The defense is trying to prevent the other teams from scoring. A football field is 100 yards long plus two ten yard endzones on opposite ends. Teams who are able to move the ball into the endzone get a touchdown for 6 points. After a team gets a touchdown they will normally have the kicker kick the ball betwen the goal posts for 1 extra point. The offense has two main ways to move the ball, passing and running. A team gets 4 downs to move 10 yards. Penalties on either team can cause a team to move forward or go backwards. After three downs if a team does not get 10 yards, they will either punt, go for it by running or passing, or kick a field goal. In order to kick a field goal, the team must be close enough within their kicker's range to make it. A field goal is worth 3 points. If your team is not close enough for a field goal, then the punter will kick the ball away to the other team. Sometimes, if a team has to get only a few inches on 4th down, then the team will run the ball to get a new set of downs. In other situations, a team will be forced to run a play on fourth down if the game is on the line and time is running out. Other concepts: fumble is when a player drops the ball and his knee or arm is not touchig the ground, interception is when the quarterbacker (the guy throwing the ball) has his pass stolen by the other team's defender, a sack is when a defender knocks the quarterback to the ground when he is still holding the football, a safety is when the quarterback gets sacked in his own team's endzone and the team on defense gets 2 points. A game has four quarters, 15 minutes each. Team with the most points at the end of the fourth quarter wins. If there is a tie, then there is sudden death overtime, where the first team that scores in overtime wins.
Is that enough for now?

You have 4 tries for a first down,"10 yards"on forth down if you don't get a first "go ten yards",you turn the ball over, that's why most times you see a punt, give the ball to the other team. Touchdowns are six points, after a touchdown you can kick for the extra point which is worth 1 point or go for the 2 point conversion which is worth 2.If it is 4th down and inside the 35 yard line, you will most likely see the team go for a field goal which is worth 3 points ....hope this helped

When You receive the ball, Your team has 4 Downs or, tries, to move the ball 10 yards. if You do not accomplish this, You punt or, kick the ball away to the other team. if Your team is the DALLAS COWBOYS, they may elect to punt on 1st down. anyway, if Your team is too far away to make a touchdown (6 points, 7 if they make the extra point, 1 point), but, within what they believe to be their kickers range, they may attempt a field goal (3 points). that is when the kicker, kicks the ball over and, through the goal posts. if they do make it 10 yards within the 4 downs, they get a 1st down and, a whole new set of downs and, it starts all over again.

Andy Griffith explained it best.
You see, there is this real pretty little cow pasture that some one has messed up by drawing white lines all over. Then people wearing weird outfits with tights come out and start to argue about this funny shaped pumkin. Now why they want it so bad is a mystery, because they throw it, they kick it, they drop it, and they fall on it and it never busts, so you know they can't eat it.
Any way first one group of people stand up and hollor, then the people facing them stand up and hollor,. this goes on about two hours or more.
People come by every now and then and try to sell you a hot dog or a beer for half your month's wages.
The object of the fight seems to be which group of men can carry that funny looking tuff punkin from one end of the cow pasture to the other the most times with out getting knocked down or stepping in something.

theres a kickoff & the returning team has four chances to gain 10 yards either passing or running the ball & gets another 4 plays if they accomplish that. if not they punt the ball & the defense gets the ball & their offense comes out onto the field. when a team crosses into the end zone they get 6 points & can kick for 1 point or go for 2 by re-entering the endzone. then they kickoff. the offense can also kick a field goal for 3 points then kickoff. the defense can recover a fumble or intercept the ball & return it for a touchdown if not tackled.

Forget learning football. just grab a beer, sit back, and look pretty and don't talk while the game is on.
