Movie help, please!?

Question

My friend was talking about a movie and I don't know the title.

It stars a little girl (she's maybe 4 or 5) who is apparently a phenomenal actress. I get the impression it's a foreign film...In fact, I'm pretty sure it might be in French.

any ideas as to what it might be?

I think it has something to do with the war, I'm not sure though.

And I know it wasn't a comedy. Probably drama
