I have had my Pacifica for a little over a year now, it was bought "pre-owned". The gas mileage was about 22 mpg at the time of purchase, now I am only getting about 20 mpg. Everything has been done as far a regular maintence. I don't know why I seem to be decreasing in gas mileage and I drive a lot so a little decrease makes a difference. I drive the same roads all the time so highway/city shouldn't be making any difference for me. Is there any thing I can do myself without going to the mechanic? Is there anything I need to have my mechanic look for? Thanks for your help!

You might need a tune-up. Even though the manual says it is not time for one, a small decrease in the performance of a part (a spark plug voltage decreasing) will affect your overall mileage.

Try these...

1. Make sure your tires are properly inflated.
2. Add some high strength fuel injector cleaner.
3. Replace spark plugs, wires, dist. cap.

Also, if the station where you regularly by fuel has started using an ethanol blend (they don't necessarily have to report if it is only 5-10%), that will affect mileage as well.

About the only thing I can think that might help is replace the spark plugs. It has 100,000 mile plugs in it, but that doesn't mean they will go that distant with optimal performance. To check gas mileage, take a trip around 2-3 hundred miles and check miles per gallon. Around town and stop and go average will not give you an accurate number. And very important! Make sure tire pressure is right! And adjust them cold.( Or one hour after stopping).
